 • Basic Material - This tutorial describes how to create a basic material. This is not the most efficient way of doing this and takes more disk space than other ways of doing this, however it does show the basics of how to create a material.

 - Start by opening the generic browser and selecting File>Import. Then find the file that you want to import (In this case a texture) My textures are in Photoshop (.psd) format but there are many that will work. Just to start with I am going to only select the Diffuse texture of my material.

 - When you select open it will then open the resource import dialog. Here only worry about the package name, the group and the name of this specific texture. ( I usually put textures into my group of textures )

 - After the texture is imported, right click and select Create New Material to create a new material of this texture.

 - When the Create new material dialog pops up fill in what package, group and name you want. (I put materials in a new material group).

 - After creating the material find it in the generic browser and double click on it. This will open the material editor. Now you will see a preview of the texture called a Texture Sample. You can select and move this texture sample by left clicking on it to select it and then click + ctrl will drag it. Click on the black tab on the left of the texture sample and drag the line it creates to the Diffuse tab on the right of the material. This will assign this texture to the diffuse tab of the material.

 - This is continuing to add more textures to the existing material. I imported ( repeat the above steeps) 2 more textures; The normal map and the secular map.

 - Going back to the material editor by double clicking your material, select the specular texture in the generic browser and then go back to the material editor. Click Texture sample from the right and drag it onto the main material area (To create a new Texture sample the same as the diffuse) This will create a new texture sample that can be connected to various tabs on the left. Connect the black tab of the specular texture sample and connect it to Specular. Do the same for the normal map but instead of connecting it to the specular tab connect it to the normal tab.

 - If you have done the step above correctly this will be the result. This is a very simple material that will include a diffuse texture, a specular texture, and a normal map.
